Gianluca Franzese (b. 1976, Italy) is an Italian-born American artist who has lived and worked in San Francisco over the past 14 years. Franzese was raised in New York, where he studied painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY before transferring to the Florence Academy of Art in Tuscany to learn the skill and technique of the Old Masters. The son of a jewelry maker, he started painting early on, moving through realist, expressive, and narrative styles. With a background in decorative painting, Franzese’s style has evolved to blend continuous patterns of color with dynamic metal reflections; incorporating meticulous attention to detail and dedication to flawlessness. Each painting plays with the viewer’s perspective, illuminating the spaces in which they reside.
Franzese had exhibited works globally including San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, Miami, FL, Seattle, WA, London, UK, Florence, Italy, and Stavern, Norway. His work has been published in PRNewswire, Juxtapoz, Vanity Fair (Italy), La Repubblica Della Donna, and Architectural Digest (Italy). Franzese has been privately collected around the world, and can be found in the permanent collection of Tiffany & Co., Milan, Italy.
Artist Statement
“This collection reflects my belief that beauty is a process that happens over time, with a focus on underlying patterns and geometries found in nature. The metallic elements in the pieces are sensitive to the temperature of the environment, expressing a particular temperament based on context. This responsive variable means that the work is always unique to the time and place in which it is viewed.”
