Considering David Bohm’s writing on the Implicate Order and the macro and micro perspectives of landscape, the exhibit Thinking Like the Universe and related programs are an investigation into psychedelic landscapes and geometric cosmic patterns. Thinking Like the Universe examines our desire to make order from, or understand the interconnectedness of the universe, from subatomic particles up through the species. Whether observing expressions of landscape– abstracted, bastardized or imbued with mysticism or zooming in to see the patterns that exist at the particle level, we intuit the moving force that connects.

Kamau Amu Patton is an artist based in New York and San Francisco. He received his M.F.A. from Stanford University in 2007 and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in sociology. Patton has exhibited his work in solo exhibitions at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Queen’s Nails Annex in San Francisco, Machine Project in Los Angeles, and Tilton Gallery in New York. He has worked collaboratively on artists’ projects at MoMA in New York and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Patton is currently an artist-in-residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Erik Wilson is a Bay Area Artist working in video, animation, sound, design, and education. His work explores early motion graphics and the synthetic re-creation of naturally occurring systems. After receiving his BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute in 2009, he collaborated with art collective Torolab on a multimedia social art project in an exhibition at the Leon Biennial 2009 as well as playing regular audio/visual gigs around the Bay Area including Queen’s Nails and Ever Gold Gallery.
