June is here and the gallery looks fresh!
The walls are alive with the vibrant works by Berkely artist, Michael Cutlip.
Bye, Bye, Birdie will showcase Cutlip’s new mixed media paintings. Stripping away his recognizable 1950’s kitsch imagery, Cutlip’s paintings are multilayered, highly individualized and capture the essence of the urban environment.
Cultip’s new body of work is inspired by the possibilities of the unknown. Manipulating paper from billboards, posters and signs, imagery is still present however it is in between the levels of the collaged paper. Cultip evokes and preserves a sense of history in a vibrant abstract manner allowing the viewer to become part of the process and mystery.
The result of layering the found fragments of information gives Michael’s paintings a three-dimensional tactile tangibility allowing the viewer to connect with each layer.
Pretty Stellar, right?
