COLLECTIVE TOPOGRAPHIES March 1st- 31st 2014

collectivetopographies_extK. Imperial Fine Art is pleased to announce, Collective Topographies a solo exhibition featuring gallery artist Peter Foucault. Collective Topographies will showcase Foucault’s newest body of work, inspired by his interest in cartography, chance systems in mark making, and the destructive/generative forces in nature and physics. The exhibition opens March 6, 2014 with an artist talk and demonstration on March 8, from 2 -3pm and a reception for the artist to follow from 3-5pm.

On display will be works on paper that are fueled by the artist’s passion for drawing and mark making. Foucault has created a series of Drawing Projects, which utilize a small robot and systems he has personally developed, ultimately leading to the creation of complex abstract compositions. At the root of these projects is a constant tension between control and the loss of control.

During the artist talk and reception, guests will have the opportunity to influence the outcome of a drawing that is created by the robot employing one of Foucault’s systems. Foucault’s work is concept-driven, and often utilizes objects that reference printmaking and multiplicities.Foucault has participated in numerous exhibitions nationwide, as well as in Berlin, Germany. In addition to his own practice, Foucault is the co-founder of the Mobile Arts Platform (MAP), a Bay Area based art making and curatorial team that creates interactive “pop-up” mobile exhibitions.

Collective Topographies will be on view through the month of March.
