Hello K. Imperial art enthusiasts and Happy Spring! Currently on view in the gallery is a wonderful exhibition, Landscape Multiverse by Oakland based artist, Lorene Anderson. Landscape Multiverse features large mixed media paintings depicting the universal theme of macro vs. micro and exploring the relationship of seemingly opposite entities. Anderson’s process of manipulating her materials of dispensing liquids, tilting surfaces in a controlled manner, creates a luminosity and lightness that is recorded in the organic landscapes.

Inspired by Northern California and Burgundy, France landscapes, Anderson uses these landscapes as a footing and entry into the reality that she creates on the canvas. Her process of painting, and scraping reveals another “painting” through the imagery that is created by the marks of the scraped section. This process of stripping and scraping plays a role in creating positive and negative space and brings it to the forefront of the painting.
