K. Imperial Fine Art is proud to present Constant Dance, a new exhibition by Miguel Rodriguez. This dazzling display of pastel, charcoal, and oil works is a seamless blend of dreamy kaleidoscopic forms with a touch of psychedelia. Constant Dance will be on view from August 5th to September 24th, 2024. The gallery and the artist welcome the public to the opening reception, on Saturday, August 17th, from 3-5 p.m.

Constant Dance is an exploration in visualizing movement. Each composition teems with activity: richly saturated colors burst forth like fireworks, pastel swoops stretch from one corner of a page to the other, oils give off an undulating effect, and charcoal lines vibrate with tension. Different forms of motion frequently bump up against each other, creating surprising new visual effects and sensory experiences.

Over the years, Rodriguez’ abstract paintings and drawings have taken on many shapes and media in his search for universal forms. In addition to the pastel, charcoal, and pumice that make up this exibition, he has pushed beyond the limits of paints, inks, and collage, into less established pigments like coffee and wine. By traditional means or obscure, all are explored in pursuit of his quest for common visual ground across a wide variety of subject matter, from wildflowers and landscapes to cells and particles to the human figure. He lets these images and ideas interact and influence each other, creating conditions for the possibility of surprise. His art is in perpetual communication with the outside world and current events, and the images that inspire him are continuously being influenced by these things. In his own words, “Art is not made in a vacuum,… [artists] are people of conscience, we can’t help but be affected by what’s going on.” What results is an ever-fluctuating process that describes the movement of the world, encapsulated in the pulsing, radiating energy of Rodriguez’ art.
