K. Imperial Fine Art is pleased to announce, PAPER VERBS, an exhibition featuring San Francisco based artist, Missy Engelhardt. This will be Engelhart’s first solo exhibition and will feature abstract scored paper wall sculptures. PAPER VERBS opens May 1, 2014 with the reception for the artist from 5:00 – 7:30pm.
Engelhardt explores the properties of paper and the methods of manipulation that are commonly associated with the material: cutting, tearing, scoring, folding, and wrinkling. Primarily working with seamless paper, Engelhardt’s practice revolves around and reinforces the complex attributes of paper manipulation. Inspired by Richard Serra’s Verb List, Engelhardt chooses two to threemethods and repeats the process while creating each specific sculpture. Every manipulation is strategic and dictates the following motion, ultimately generating a repetitive cadence while establishing elegant texture and a spatial presence.
Missy Engelhardt received a BFA from Sonoma State University and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Engelhardt has recently exhibited at San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, San Jose, CA; Root Division, San Francisco, CA; Somarts, San Francisco, CA. Missy was featured in New American Paintings #105 and is a recipient of the Harold E. Weiner memorial fund courtesy of San Francisco Art Institute. Missy Engelhardt was born in Lodi, CA and currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
