We are excited to present an exhibit of two and three dimensional hand-cut paper works by Nevada City based artist Tahiti Pehrson.Pehrson’s work explores complex systemic patterns, architectural forms, and reoccurring motifs in the natural world.
For this current body of work, Pehrson references circadian rhythms. A circadian rhythm is any biological process produced or synthesized within the organism or system where the internal physiological or behavioral events match the oscillation of 24 hours. These rhythms have been widely observed in plants, animals, fungi and cyanobacteria. These biological processes exist without external cues and yet can be reset by stimuli outside of the organism such as light and heat. Pehrson’s interest lies in the examination of these dense patterns. He compares the relationship between stimuli and effect in organisms to the catalysts for change in our society. Light and shadow, utilized in both the two dimensional wall pieces and three dimensional sculptural works, is an essential component, giving form to structure and detail. Tahiti (b. 1972) was born on the northern California coast and grew up in an artist family in Nevada City, California. He has been making cut paper works for the last 15 years. He has exhibited at many San Francisco galleries and has also shown in Portland, New York and Paris. In 2012 Pehrson presented a solo show at the University of San Francisco’s Cantor Museum and at the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery Windows. The exhibit runs from June 8th – July 13th. Join us for an artist reception on Saturday, June 8th, from 3-5pm. K. Imperial Fine Art is located at 49 Geary Street on the 4th floor. |
